2009 Makeover Challenge

A recent ncolor {salon+boutique2} Makeover Challenge was open to southwest Florida residents who entered the selection process for a total personal beauty transformation. The makeover included expert hair care professionals, make-up artist and the SAKS 5th Avenue, 5th Avenue Club wardrobe consultant to complete the beauty transformation for one deserving entrant.

Years of untouched hairLocks of Love received two beautiful braids

What makes this makeover so special is that the selected entrant decided to give someone in need a special makeover by giving back her years of long hair to “Locks of Love” in return.

The salon held a summer promotion throughout the community in hopes of finding someone who was really deserving of a makeover. As part of the entry procedure, entrants were asked questions on “beauty” areas they felt gave them the most challenges or concerns and specifically, why they felt they should win this extraordinary makeover.

It was a huge success, the salon received hundreds of entries from all over Southwest Florida. but one definitely stood out above the rest. Meg Demspey’sletter reached out to the hearts of the selection committee, when she wrote about her need to give back to someone else. Her daily social work also told a much larger story of what makes someone even more beautiful inside.

“As you can see from my pictures I AM IN NEED OF A CHANGE. I have had the same long hair forever. I usually wear my hair tied back because of the length and the hot Florida weather. I’d like a shorter cut that better suits the Florida lifestyle and my busy schedule. And this leads to another reason why ncolor should select me. I would like to donate my hair to Locks of Love. I’ve looked into this and I meet their requirements: my hair is not colored and I can donate at least 10 inches.

Now that I’ve entered my thirties, I feel the biggest challenge for me is to actually to appear my age. I think I very often look much younger than my actual age (which is 32). Many people guess that I am in my 20s and are surprised when I tell them my age.

I’m looking for a totally different look. I would like to change my appearance so that I look more professional and sophisticated. I feel that part of this change includes a completely different hairstyle. I have had pretty much the same hair style—long with some layers—for years. I think a shorter more modern cut would completely change my appearance.

Just a little about my background: I recently moved from New York to the Southwest Florida area with my husband. I’m a social worker. I work with children as a therapist in Naples. My job is very demanding and I have very little time for myself. My husband and I were married in November 2007. I know he would be excited for me to update my appearance. I would love to surprise him with a whole new me.

I heard about your salon and this makeover challenge from my friend Denise Altman.  Denise is so excited about ncolor and her excitement is contagious. She has raved about how wonderfully talented everyone is. When she has a special event she has her hair and makeup done with you beforehand. I’ve seen the pictures and how amazing she looked. Regardless of whether I’m chosen for this makeover, I am excited to visit your salon and become a customer.  Of course, I would be absolutely thrilled if you do choose me. I would be excited to place my appearance in the hands of your experts.” dsc03527The makeover teamDate night with her proud husband
